1-2-3: Augmented Intelligence

1 idea, 2 resources, and 3 tools for this week.

Welcome to Ponderer's 31st edition.

Happy Saturday! The year is about to come to an end, and as we dive into a perfectly human nostalgic phase (for some of us), we cannot help but regret or rejoice about the things we didn’t do and the things we did, the mistakes, the failures, the glimpses of success, the new people in our lives and the ones we’ve lost, and ponder “what the hell did we do right to earn your trust and attention?!” while naturally embracing our delusional entrepreneurial spirit just to face the upcoming new year with the profound understanding that life moves too damn fast and if we don’t pause and look around (and within) from time to time and take it all in, we could miss the greatest gift there is. —Ricky

Here are 1 idea to ponder, 2 resources to skill up, and 3 tools to try out.

Let’s do it.

Augmented Intelligence

The Idea

"Some people call it artificial intelligence, but the reality is this technology will enhance us. Instead of artificial intelligence, I think we’ll augment our intelligence." —Ginni Rometty, former Chairman and CEO of IBM and author of Good Power.

The technology we currently refer to as "Artificial Intelligence" is more accurately described as "Augmented Intelligence." This is because, rather than replacing human intelligence, the technology is designed to enhance and augment it.

This is an important distinction to make, as it highlights the role of AI as a tool to help us make better decisions and solve problems more effectively, rather than a replacement for human thought and creativity.

The term "Artificial Intelligence" can sometimes create an impression of a fully autonomous and independent intelligence, which is not the case with the current state of AI technology.

Instead, AI systems are designed to work alongside humans, providing them with data and insights that can help them make better decisions.

This is why the term "Augmented Intelligence" emphasizes the collaborative and supportive role that AI plays in enhancing human intelligence.
